Secondary Management

standard

How to manage secondary objective cards, including fixed selection and tactical deck mechanics.

Fixed secondaries#

If you chose Fixed during Step 2, secondary management is straightforward:

  • You picked 2 cards from a pool of 8 during Step 2.5
  • Those 2 cards stay active for the entire game
  • Each round, enter the VP scored for each card
  • No deck management needed

Tactical secondaries#

Tactical secondaries use a 19-card deck with draw, keep, and discard mechanics. This gives you more strategic options but requires active management each round.

Drawing cards#

At the start of each round, you draw a new card from your deck. The drawn card joins any card you kept from the previous round. You always have up to 2 active secondary cards per round.

Card actions#

Each round, you have several options for your tactical secondary cards:

  • Keep -- carry the card forward to the next round. Useful if you expect to score it later.
  • Discard -- permanently remove the card from your deck. It cannot be drawn again. Discarded cards appear with a strikethrough in the card list so you can track what's gone.
  • Recycle -- put the card back into your deck instead of discarding it. This is only available in Round 1 and only for eligible cards -- essentially a mulligan that gives you a second chance at a better draw.
Warning
Discarding is permanent. Once a card is discarded, it is removed from the deck for the rest of the game. Choose carefully.

Round 1 recycling#

In the first round only, some cards can be recycled (put back into the deck) instead of discarded. This is a standard Grimdark 10th Edition rule that lets you swap out unfavorable early draws without losing the card permanently.

Not all cards are eligible for recycling -- the interface shows which cards have the recycle option available.

Deck tracking#

Tap the Deck button on your side of the screen to open the deck overview. This shows:

  • Active cards -- currently in play for this round
  • Discarded cards -- removed from the deck
  • Remaining deck -- cards still available to draw in future rounds

From here you can also return a discarded card to the deck if it was discarded by accident.

Manual secondaries#

Manual mode uses the same 19-card tactical deck, but instead of drawing randomly, you select your card from a list. This is designed for players who draw from their physical card deck and want to track the result digitally.

How it works#

  1. Enable Manual Draw in your game settings on the dashboard
  2. During Step 2, choose Manual as your secondary type
  3. Each round, tap SELECT (instead of Draw) to open the card picker
  4. Pick the card that matches what you drew from your physical deck
  5. Score, keep, and discard work exactly the same as Tactical mode

Card picker status indicators#

The card picker shows all 19 cards in alphabetical order with status indicators:

  • White text -- available to select
  • Orange text with strikethrough -- previously discarded, but still selectable (if you recycled the physical card)
  • Green text with checkmark -- completed (scored 15 VP in a prior round), still selectable
  • Gray text "(R1 blocked)" -- restricted in Round 1, not selectable
  • Gray text "In use" -- already in your other secondary slot, not selectable
Tip
Manual mode is a per-player choice. One player can use Manual while the other uses Tactical or Fixed.
