Overlay Issues

Troubleshoot common overlay problems in gd streamer, including display issues in OBS and real-time update failures.

Overlay not showing in OBS#

If your overlay is blank or not visible in OBS:

Check the URL#

Make sure you copied the full overlay URL from the match dashboard. The URL includes the match ID and overlay type -- if any part is missing or incorrect, the overlay won't load.

Check the browser source size#

In OBS, right-click the browser source and verify the Width and Height match your stream resolution (e.g., 1920x1080). An undersized browser source can crop or hide the overlay.

Check source visibility#

Make sure the browser source is enabled (eye icon) in your OBS sources panel, and that it's not hidden behind another source.

Check the source order#

Overlays should be above your game capture or camera source in the OBS source list. Sources higher in the list render on top.

Overlay not updating#

If the overlay loads but doesn't reflect score changes:

Check your internet connection#

Overlays rely on a real-time connection to receive updates. If the connection drops, the overlay freezes at its last known state.

Refresh the browser source#

Right-click the browser source in OBS and select Refresh cache of current page. This forces the overlay to reconnect and fetch the latest data.

Check the dashboard#

Verify that scores are actually saving on your dashboard. If the dashboard shows the correct data but the overlay doesn't, the issue is with the overlay's connection.

Tip
If refreshing doesn't work, try removing the browser source and re-adding it with the same URL. This clears any cached state.

Overlay shows watermark#

The gd streamer watermark appears on overlays for accounts on the Free or Standard tier. To remove the watermark, upgrade to the Studio tier from Settings > Subscription.

Info
The watermark is fail-secure. If the overlay can't verify your subscription status (e.g., due to a network issue), the watermark appears as a default. This resolves automatically when the connection is restored.

Overlay looks wrong#

Wrong style#

gd streamer offers two overlay styles: Tech and Glass. If the overlay doesn't look the way you expect, check the overlay style setting on your match page. You can switch styles without losing data.

Incorrect data#

If player names, factions, or scores look wrong, verify the match data on your dashboard. Overlays display exactly what's in the match -- there's no separate overlay configuration.

Black background in OBS#

If you see a black background behind the overlay instead of transparency:

  • Open the browser source properties in OBS
  • Make sure the Custom CSS field is empty or contains only default OBS CSS
  • Do not add any custom background styles
  • If you use multiple OBS scenes, check whether Shutdown source when not visible is causing disconnects. The OBS Setup guide recommends enabling it (forces a clean reconnect on scene switch), but if you need overlays to stay connected across scenes, uncheck it

Overlays use a transparent background by default. Black backgrounds typically come from OBS settings overriding the transparency.
