Creating Your First Event
Step-by-step guide to creating an event in gd streamer, setting up its rounds, and opening a game.
Last updated: 2026-09-12Create an event#
An event is the starting point in gd streamer. It holds the rounds, the times and the breaks of a tournament day, and each round is a game you can put on stream. A game holds all the data your overlays need: players, scores, rounds, timers and game settings.
Log in, open the Events page, and press New event. A four-step wizard walks you through the setup:
Basics
Name the event, set its dates and time zone, and pick the game system:
- Warhammer 40K 10th Edition: full support with secondaries, battle tactics, and WTC scoring
- Warhammer 40K 11th Edition: force dispositions, asymmetric primaries, secondaries scored from the card, and WTC scoring
- Age of Sigmar 4th Edition: beta support
- Generic: a configurable tracker for any game
Every round of the event is created in that system. For Warhammer 40K you can mark the event as a teams event. Pick the overlay style the games start with.

Schedule
Set the number of rounds, then the day, start and end time of each one. Add breaks between rounds. Times and breaks are on the Studio plan. A name like "Round 1" is filled in for you.
Review
Check the summary and press Create event. You land on the event's schedule with one game per round.
The event schedule#
The schedule lists the games in order. Click a game name to open its dashboard. The games are also listed under Schedule in the menu on the left. On a game, the menu takes you to everything you can configure:
- Overview: quick glance at player scores, mission info, share links, and team members
- Match setup: choose the mission, deployment zone, attacker/defender roles, secondary type, and WTC scoring. The timer is here too. Set a countdown duration or a target end time. A round with an end time on the schedule has its timer preset.
- Players: set player names, factions, subfactions, colors, and team names. With a roster on the event, pick a player from the list.
- Scores: enter round-by-round scoring for both players
- Overlays: change the overlay style and copy overlay URLs. New games use the event's style.
- Stream Deck: export a Stream Deck profile for physical button controls standard
- Automations: arm and fire timed overlay sequences during the stream standard
Go live#
Back on the schedule, press Go live on the game you are streaming. Every overlay on your channel URL shows that game. When the next round starts, press Go live on the next game. See Running the day.
Copy overlay URLs#
Go to the Overlays tab on a game. Each overlay has its own URL that you add to OBS as a Browser Source. Use the channel URLs so the overlays follow Go live; a URL with a match id stays on that one game.
Free tier limits#
On the free tier, you can create 1 project (an event or a quick match) with 1 game in it, and use the basic overlays (scoreboard, player, and game overlays). Scene overlays, utility overlays, player input, and Stream Deck require a Standard or Studio subscription.
What's next?#
Your event is set up and your overlay URLs are ready. Head to OBS Setup to learn how to add them to your stream.
