Automations
Build timed overlay sequences and fire them by hand, from a Stream Deck key, or from a game event.

An automation is a reusable overlay sequence: a trigger, a series of timed steps, and a cleanup at the end. Fire one and it plays a scripted moment on your stream, a caster lower third that slides in and holds for a few seconds, a player-versus-player intro, a secondary card reveal, a ticker that stays up until you stop it.
Automations live on your account, not on a single match. Build them once and use them in every match you stream.
The Automation Layer#
Automations render in a dedicated overlay called the Automation Layer. You add it to OBS once, as a full-screen browser source, the same way as any other overlay. Everything an automation shows appears on that layer, so your regular overlays are never touched.
Find the Automation Layer URL with your other overlay URLs on the match Overlays tab.
Triggers#
- Manual: fire the automation yourself from the match's Automations deck, or from a Stream Deck key.
- Game event: arm the automation and it fires on its own when the event happens in the match:
- Secondary draw: a player draws a tactical secondary (Warhammer 40K 11th Edition only)
- Next round: the match advances to a new round (all game systems)
- Bottom of round: the second player starts their half of the round (Warhammer 40K 11th Edition only)
Elements#
Each step in a sequence shows or hides an element. Available elements include lower thirds, tickers, caster nameplates, sponsor slates, call-to-action panels, images, player cards, a player-versus-player intro, a full-wide round banner, secondary card reveals, and an embed of any existing overlay.
Text fields support tokens like {round}, {phase}, {player.name}, and {secondary.name}. They are replaced with live match data when the automation fires.
Timing and cleanup#
- Offset: each step starts at its own point on the timeline.
- Hold: elements hide themselves after a set time (4 seconds by default), playing their entrance in reverse.
- Keep until stopped: persistent elements, like tickers, stay on screen until you stop the automation.
- Finish: when the sequence ends or you press Stop, everything clears off-screen. No stray graphics.
Where to work with automations#
- Library (
/automations): all your automations, with search, enable/disable, duplicate, and delete. - New Automation wizard: a step-by-step builder for creating one, from trigger to exit animation, with a live preview.
- Editor: a timeline editor for fine-tuning steps, timing, and transitions.
- Control Center (match Automations tab): arm game-event automations, fire and stop manual ones, and watch what is on air.
- Stream Deck: each automation can get its own on/off key in your exported profile.
What's next?#
Add the Automation Layer to OBS following the same steps as any overlay in OBS Setup. For Stream Deck keys, see Stream Deck.
