Common Questions
Frequently asked questions about gd streamer, including real-time updates, browser support, and feature capabilities.
Last updated: 2026-03-23How do real-time updates work?#
gd streamer uses Supabase Realtime to push data changes to all connected clients. When a score changes on the tablet or dashboard, every overlay and connected device receives the update within approximately 100-200ms.
There is no polling or manual refresh required. Overlays, tablets, and the dashboard all maintain a persistent WebSocket connection that receives changes as they happen.
Can I use gd streamer offline?#
No. gd streamer requires an active internet connection to function. The dashboard, overlays, and player input all communicate through the server in real time. Without internet, data cannot sync between devices.
For organizations that need a fully local or air-gapped setup, we offer an Enterprise plan with a dedicated, custom-branded server hosted on your own infrastructure. Contact us for details.
What browsers are supported?#
gd streamer works in all modern browsers:
- Chrome (recommended)
- Safari
- Firefox
- Edge
This applies to the dashboard, overlays, and player input. For OBS browser sources, the built-in Chromium engine handles overlays without any special configuration.
How many overlays can I use at once?#
There is no limit on the number of overlays you can add to OBS. Each overlay is an independent browser source with its own URL. Add as many as your stream layout needs -- scoreboards, player cards, round trackers, timers, and more can all run simultaneously.
Performance depends on your computer's resources, not on gd streamer.
Can I customize overlay colors?#
Yes. Player colors are customizable per match. You can set any hex color for Player 1 and Player 2, and those colors appear on all overlays that display player-specific data.
The overall overlay aesthetic (Tech or Glass) is selected per match and determines the visual style of all overlays.
Is there a mobile app?#
No. gd streamer is entirely browser-based. There is no iOS or Android app. The dashboard, player input, and overlays all run in a web browser on any device.
This means there's nothing to install, update, or maintain. Open the URL and you're ready.
Can I reset a match mid-game?#
Yes. From the match dashboard, you can reset match data if you need to start over. This clears scores and round data while keeping the match configuration (players, factions, settings) intact.
Can both players use the same tablet?#
Yes. In tablet mode, the split-screen interface shows both players' inputs on a shared device. In phone mode, each player uses their own device. Both modes sync to overlays in real time.
What game systems are supported?#
gd streamer currently supports:
- Grimdark 10th Edition -- full support with primary/secondary scoring, battle tactics, WTC scoring, and all 28+ overlays
- Fantasy 4th Edition -- beta support
Additional game systems are planned for future releases.
Do my overlays work if my dashboard is closed?#
Yes. Overlays are independent of the dashboard. Once an overlay URL is loaded in OBS, it maintains its own connection to the server. You can close the dashboard tab and overlays will continue to update from player input or other sources.
